Engelhard is the Corporate Headquarters for The East Carolina Bank

Fairfield is home to Lake Mattamuskeet, NC's largest natural lake.

Swan Quarter is the county seat.

Ocracoke, once inhabited by Blackbeard the Pirate, is located on the Outer Banks, and accessible only by ferry (from either Swan Quarter or Hatteras), private boat or plane.

Hyde County has some of the finest duck and goose hunting in the world. Fishing, sailing, water-skiing, boating, clamming and bird watching are just some of the activities residents and visitors enjoy.
Farming of both the land and water is the chief occupation of this county. Some of the East Coast's best seafood, crab meat, shrimp, oysters and fish are provided by Hyde County.
Although the region is abundant in natural beauty and wildlife, the most prominent attractions in Hyde County are the wonderful people. When you enter Hyde County you always feel welcome. Good food and fellowship is the trademark of Hyde County.
