Historic Sites
During the revolution, Williamston became the first incorporated town in Martin County. In 1779, the town was named in honor of Colonel William Williams. Colonel Williams was from a wealthy and distinguished family who owned large plantations in the northwestern part of the county.

Area Attractions

Asa Biggs House, circa 1831. Cannon shots damaged one of the walls of the house during the Civil War, and patches of the damage are still visible today.

Williamston is located on the banks of the Roanoke River where water sports are aplenty such as, boating, sailing, fishing, swimming, and water-skiing. Home to Martin General Hospital and Martin Community College, Williamston is a beautiful and friendly town.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in one of the many scenic town parks or a hot dog at the ball field while cheering on Williamston's excellent little league teams.
